Profile & Story

Clos Haut-Peyraguey is the smallest of the First Growths (Premiers Crus Classés) of Sauternes in the 1855 classification, its 8.5 hectares held in a single enclosed plot on the northeast slope of Bommes, opposite Château d'Yquem; the property was carved from a larger 18th-century estate in 1879, and Bernard Magrez acquired it at the end of 2012. Semillon dominates the vineyard, with a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc.

Tasting Notes

The 2018 shows aromas of quince, crystallized lemon, and candied mirabelle plum, with subtle floral and spice notes; the palate is fruity, fresh, and well-balanced, with finesse, elegance, and a finely acidic structure, expressing candied citrus, marzipan, and honey.

Pairing Recommendation

The estate suggests pairing it with foie gras, blue cheese, desserts, exotic dishes, and poultry, noting its ability to age for 10 to 30 years.
