The Benau family has grown grapes since 1980 around a sixteenth-century farmhouse in Picpoul de Pinet, on the Languedoc coast between Beziers and Montpellier near Sete. The first estate bottling came in 1999, when Julie Benau returned home and took up winemaking; she has progressively moved both vineyard and cellar to a low-intervention footing that is close to fully organic. Les Bidules is her label. The Picpoul de Pinet is 100% Piquepoul Blanc, given extended lees ageing for texture and body, and bottled unfiltered and unsulfured.
