Profile & Story
Avinyo is a family-run Cava and still-wine estate in Avinyonet del Penedes, Catalonia, farming its vineyards organically. Petillant, labeled a vi d'agulla ('needle wine' -- Catalan for a lightly sparkling style), blends Muscat de Frontignan from the high-altitude Finca La Guardia vineyard (planted 2003) with Macabeo and Xarel-lo from the older Finca Can Fontanals vineyard (planted 1978-1988). Grapes are night-harvested and gently pressed, with fermentation on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The finished wine is a light 10.5% ABV.
Tasting Notes
A pale, lightly effervescent white with an aromatic Muscat-driven nose of white flowers and orchard fruit. Off-dry and refreshing on the palate, with a delicate prickle of natural spritz and a soft, easy finish -- the traditional summertime quaffer of the Penedes.
