Profile & Story
Bodegas Ostatu is a family winery in the village of Samaniego, in Rioja Alavesa (the Basque Country subzone of Rioja), with over 250 years of grape-growing history and 36 hectares across Samaniego, Laguardia and Leza. Ostatu Blanco is 85% Viura and 15% Malvasia from old bush vines (30-80 years old) grown on poor calcareous-clay soil at 580m altitude. The grapes are destemmed, gently pressed with a short cold maceration, then ferment on the lees in stainless steel for 24 days at 15-16C before cold stabilization and light filtration.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow with greenish hues. Citrus and white orchard fruit -- green apple and pear -- mingle with floral and lightly herbal notes on the nose. The palate is well-balanced with well-salted acidity, showing green apple, ripe greengage plum and white flowers, finishing fresh with a subtle oiliness.
