Chateau La Brande, in the Castillon hillsides of Bordeaux's Right Bank, has been owned and organically farmed (certified since 2012) by Benoit and Maud Soulies, who also head neighboring Chateau Mangot. The clay-limestone terroir produces round, generous wines from a blend of roughly 60-70% Merlot, 20-30% Cabernet Franc, 7-10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and occasionally a touch of Petit Verdot. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel with pumping-over and delestage over a 25-30 day maceration. The estate's winemaking lineage stretches back over a century, earning a Gold Medal at the 1906 Concours General Agricole de Paris.
