Profile & Story

Monte Rio Cellars is the project of Patrick Cappiello, a veteran sommelier and restaurant wine director (including a stint as Wine Director at Tribeca Grill and Food & Wine's Sommelier of the Year in 2014) who turned to winemaking in 2018. The winery focuses on heritage California varieties from Lodi and old-vine sites, farmed organically and made without additives; assistant winemaker Jesus Aleman personally farms a Pinot Noir vineyard in West Sonoma County and an ancient-vine Flame Tokay vineyard in Lodi. This Petite Sirah is sourced from Lodi vineyards in that same heritage-California spirit.
