Profile & Story

Pannonhalmi Főapátság Pincészete is the winery of the Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma in Hungary, where the monks revived the estate's vineyards after the fall of communism, repurchasing confiscated land and replanting from 2000 onward. Tricollis is their red blend of 40% Kékfrankos, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Pinot Noir, fermented in 60hl stainless steel tanks with three weeks on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentation and six months' aging in used 228-liter barrels.

Tasting Notes

A ruby-colored, mellow red wine with notes of cherry and red currant on the nose, given fine cinnamon spice by barrel aging. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, easy-drinking and approachable.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs well with Hungarian-style dishes, roasted meats, ragouts and cheeses; best enjoyed between 15-17°C.
