Weingut Peter Schandl, run today by Paul Schandl, is a family winery in Rust on the shores of the Neusiedlersee in Austria's Burgenland. This Gelber Muskateller comes from vineyards about 100 meters above the lake, one of three sites the estate farms with this variety, one of the oldest cultivated grapes in the world alongside Traminer, believed to originate in the Near East and known for tasting distinctly of fresh grapes.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant yellow in the glass, with intense, lusciously ripe Muscat aromas on the nose. The palate has a firm structure, powerful and full-bodied, closing with a vibrant, fruit-driven finish of great length.
Pairing Recommendation
Recommended with Kärntner Kasnudeln (dumplings), potato strudel, egg tagliatelle with herb pesto, poached poularde with cardamom rice, asparagus dishes, and sheep's cheese strudel with tomato chutney; serve at 7-11°C.
