Vigneti a Prua is a small, family-owned organic producer on terraced limestone cliffs above the Ligurian Sea near Albenga, farmed by Filippo Ruffino -- the winery's name ('vineyards to the bow') evokes the rounded, boat-prow shape of its terraces. Mataossu (also spelled Mataossu or Mataossu) is grown almost exclusively at Punta Crena in Liguria; a difficult-to-farm variety once nearly abandoned, it is a stylistic cross between Chenin Blanc and white Burgundy in character.
Tasting Notes
Honeyed and floral on the nose, yet saline, tensile and refreshingly vibrant on the finish, with a flinty, green-fruited character typical of this rare Ligurian coastal variety.
