Profile & Story
A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines is run by cousins Adi and Hein Badenhorst on the Kalmoesfontein and Jakkalsfontein farms in the Paardeberg, Swartland, South Africa, farming over 180 hectares of old bush vines. Secateurs is their more approachable, everyday range, made with minimal intervention. Riviera is a skin-macerated (orange) blend of 67% Chenin Blanc, 16% Grenache Blanc, 10% Roussanne and 7% Viognier, co-fermented in concrete with about a week of skin contact; the Chenin Blanc comes from a single old vineyard planted in 1972 beside a dry riverbed near Paardeberg. ABV 13.5%.
Tasting Notes
Beautifully complex, with a big aroma profile of stone fruit, orange and floral/fynbos perfume, and pronounced grapefruit, quince and spice flavors; the mouthfeel is grippy and savory with a refreshing tannin structure from the skin contact.
