Pillars of Hercules is an estate-grown-and-bottled label from Matchbook Wine Company, founded by the Giguiere family (also behind R.H. Phillips) in the Dunnigan Hills AVA of Yolo County, which they pioneered and helped establish as an official AVA in 1993. The wine is a blend of Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Teroldego grown on the family's own vineyards, aged to a rich, rounded texture with toasty oak influence. The 2020 vintage of this label scored 93 points from Wine Enthusiast.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant berry aromas of raspberry, dried cranberry and cherry lead to juicy flavors of boysenberry, blackberry and plum; a rich, rounded texture is layered with toasty oak, peppery spice and jammy fruit, framed by dusty tannins and a long, lingering finish.
