Profile & Story

Nielson takes its name from Uriel J. Nielson, who in 1964 planted the first commercial vineyard in Santa Barbara County despite neighboring farmers' doubts that the region could ripen grapes. The 2023 Chardonnay draws on Wente-clone vines from that original 1964 planting, aged 15 months in barrel for a wet-stone, apricot and floral character.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of citrus flower, clean linen and a burst of pineapple lead to a palate of pleasant weight, with honey and citrus notes and a light salinity through a medium-bodied, dry, medium-acid finish.
