Château Batailley is one of the oldest estates in Pauillac, classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru Classé) in the 1855 Bordeaux classification and owned by the Castéja family's Maison Borie-Manoux since 1924. The estate's name recalls a 1453 battle fought on its grounds during the Hundred Years' War, in which the French retook neighboring Château Latour from the English. The 2016 vintage blends 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot from 57 hectares of gravel-and-clay vines, delivering a classically structured, age-worthy Pauillac.
