Profile & Story

Château Fortia is one of the oldest properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the same family since 1890 and long associated with Baron Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié, who helped draft France's original appellation contrôlée rules and made Châteauneuf-du-Pape the country's first AOC in 1936. The estate farms about 30 hectares of galets roulés, sand, and red clay just southeast of the village. Tradition, its historic cuvée, is Grenache-led with Mourvèdre and Syrah, fermented in concrete and aged roughly 18-24 months in large old oak foudres.

Tasting Notes

Warm and spice-driven, with jammy red fruit and a soft, rounded texture typical of the appellation. Restaurant's Notes: Kirsch, ripe plum, garrigue, dried lavender, white pepper, licorice; medium-plus body with velvety tannins and a warm, savory finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Serve with braised lamb shank or a hearty Provençal-style stew.
