Conundrum is a Wagner Family of Wines brand created by Charlie Wagner (of Caymus Vineyards) as a deliberately unconventional, cross-regional project. The Conundrum Red is a blend of dark red varietals, chiefly Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from multiple premier California growing regions rather than a single appellation. The winery describes the approach as intentionally rule-breaking, blending across regions to capture the best character of each variety rather than adhering to a single-vineyard or single-AVA identity. It is designed to be both serious in construction and easy-drinking in style.
Tasting Notes
Chocolate-covered cherry and ripe plum meet a whisper of smoke and leather, the wine's rounded tannins giving it a soft, generous mouthfeel. Restaurant's Notes: A vibrant and fruit-forward blend with notes of dark berries, ripe plums, and a touch of spice; well-rounded with a smooth finish.
