Profile & Story
Corona del Valle is a family-owned winery in Mexico's Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, built on a sustainably run estate roughly 10 miles from the Pacific that draws its full power needs from a rooftop solar array and uses buried drip lines to minimize irrigation loss. Their Tempranillo is aged 12 months in French oak and bottled at 13.8% ABV, built from grapes grown in the valley's warm, coastal-influenced terroir. It shows a pale garnet-red hue with violet edges and a nose of oak spice, violet and blackberry over a fuller frame of cherry tobacco, cedar, dried fig and blueberry compote. It ranks among the more highly regarded and higher-priced Tempranillos produced in Valle de Guadalupe.
Tasting Notes
Elegant and full-bodied, with rounded, velvety tannins carrying blackberry, violet and warm oak spice through to a long finish. Restaurant's Notes: Ripe red and dark fruit with a touch of vanilla oak and soft, polished tannins that make this a smooth, food-friendly red.
Pairing Recommendation
A natural match for grilled or smoked meats like carne asada, cochinita pibil, or a mole-sauced dish, where the wine's ripe fruit and soft tannins stand up to the char and spice.
