Château Les Cruzelles is Denis Durantou's flagship Lalande-de-Pomerol estate (correcting the menu's "Margaux" listing to its true appellation), located barely a kilometer from Durantou's famed Château L'Église-Clinet in Pomerol and sharing similar clay-gravel soils. The 10-hectare vineyard carries one of the highest proportions of Cabernet Franc in the appellation alongside Merlot, and since Durantou's death in 2020 the estate has been guided by his daughters Noémie and Constance with cellar master Olivier Gautrat. The 2021 blend of roughly 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc is widely regarded as one of the best values on Bordeaux's Right Bank.
Tasting Notes
Dark and brooding, with black plum and cocoa framed by fine, gravelly tannins. Restaurant's Notes: Black cherry, ripe plum, cocoa, licorice, cedar; supple and plush with a cocoa-dusted finish.
Pairing Recommendation
Lovely with duck carnitas or a rich chile-braised pork mole.
