Profile & Story

Domaine Charvin has farmed in the northern sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1851, though the family only began estate-bottling in 1990 under sixth-generation winemaker Laurent Charvin, who converted the 28-hectare property to organic viticulture. The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is built from roughly 80% Grenache with Syrah, Mourvèdre and small amounts of Vaccarèse and Counoise, fermented with whole clusters and aged in concrete tank rather than barrel, then bottled unfiltered. The result is a classic, terroir-driven expression from a warm, structured vintage that James Suckling scored 98 points, prized for its aromatic complexity and fine-grained tannin.

Tasting Notes

Dense and perfumed, with black cherry, garrigue and licorice framed by firm, silky tannins typical of top-tier Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Restaurant's Notes: Red cherry, raspberry coulis, garrigue, white pepper, licorice; supple tannins with savory, stony length.

Pairing Recommendation

A natural match for mole negro, adobo-braised meats, or other rich, spice-forward Mexican dishes.
