Profile & Story

Domaine Michel Magnien, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, sold grapes to the local cooperative until Frédéric Magnien joined in the 1990s and began estate-bottling; he has since expanded the domaine and converted it fully to biodynamic farming, certified by Demeter since 2015. Their 'Les Seuvrées' comes from a lieu-dit on 60-plus-year-old vines on clay-limestone soil mixed with marl and rounded stones, situated south of the village of Gevrey just below the Grand Cru climats of Mazoyères and Charmes-Chambertin, on a gentle east-facing slope. The wine is aged partly in used French oak and partly in clay amphorae, a signature Magnien technique intended to preserve fruit purity alongside oak-derived structure.

Tasting Notes

Intense and structured, with red and black currant, iron-tinged minerality, and notes of black pepper and bay leaf. Restaurant's Notes: A bold, mineral-driven Gevrey with ripe tannins and a savory, spice-laced finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Excellent with charcuterie boards, veal cutlet, or roasted white meats.
