Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils traces its roots to Francis Usseglio, an Italian immigrant who settled in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1931. His son Raymond founded this estate in the early 1960s, separately from his brother Pierre's domaine. Now farmed biodynamically across roughly 24 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Côtes du Rhône, it is run today by Raymond's grandson Stéphane, the third generation. The Tradition cuvée is Grenache-led, rounded out with Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Counoise.
Tasting Notes
Ripe red and black fruit with a spiced, herbal undertone and a smooth, generous texture. Restaurant's Notes: Black raspberry, strawberry liqueur, dried lavender, thyme, smoked meat; plush and concentrated with polished tannins.
Pairing Recommendation
Try alongside braised short rib or a rich mole-glazed duck.
