Profile & Story

E. Guigal is one of the most renowned negociant-producers in France's Rhone Valley, founded in 1946 in Ampuis and now run by the third generation of the Guigal family. Their Gigondas is grown on the ancient alluvial, red clay and gravel soils at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, from vines averaging around 40 years old, and blends roughly 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre. Gigondas has a winemaking history dating back to Roman times, and Guigal's version is known for pairing power with a structured, age-worthy tannic backbone.

Tasting Notes

This Gigondas shows dark red fruit and garrigue-driven spice over a firm, structured backbone typical of the appellation's Grenache-based blends. Restaurant's Notes: Black raspberry, kirsch, blackberry, smoked herbs, cracked pepper, licorice, crushed stone; full-bodied, firm yet ripe tannins, long mineral finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs well with grilled lamb or hearty braised meats that can stand up to its ripe tannins.
