Profile & Story

First produced in 1974, Insignia was California's original proprietary Bordeaux-style red blend and remains Joseph Phelps Vineyards' flagship wine. The 2019 vintage blends 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec sourced from seven Napa Valley estate vineyards, aged 24 months in 100% new French oak, and marks the first vintage to include fruit from the newly planted El Venadito vineyard in the Oak Knoll District.

Tasting Notes

Dense layers of blackberry, cassis and dark chocolate wrapped in polished, fine-grained tannins with real length. Restaurant's Notes: Cassis, black plum, violet, cocoa, and graphite; polished tannins and exceptional length.

Pairing Recommendation

Excellent alongside a charred ribeye or short rib barbacoa.
