Profile & Story

Hacienda La Lomita was founded in 2009 by Fernando Pérez Castro in the Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, and is one of the few certified-organic wineries in the region, farming its estate vineyard on clay-and-granite soils near San Antonio de las Minas since 2012. The winery's Grenache comes from vines planted on the estate and is fermented entirely in stainless steel with skin-contact maceration, a minimal-intervention approach meant to preserve fresh, bright fruit character. Lomita's old-vine Grenache parcel is prized enough that its single-vineyard bottling (Pagano) appears on The French Laundry's wine list, underscoring the seriousness of Baja Grenache from this producer.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant and fruit-forward, with watermelon, wild strawberry and rose petal notes carried by fresh, food-friendly acidity. Restaurant's Notes: Juicy strawberry, ripe raspberry, red cherry, and blood orange zest with rose petal, white pepper, and dried herbal tones (thyme, sage); medium body with silky tannins, moderate acidity, and a touch of cocoa/spice from subtle oak.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs beautifully with grilled octopus, ceviche, or lighter Mexican dishes built around fresh chiles and citrus.
