Maison Louis Latour, founded in 1797 and still run by the same family, is one of Burgundy's oldest négociant-producer houses, headquartered in Beaune's Château Corton-Grancey. Its Beaune 1er Cru 'Perrières' comes from a small 1.32-hectare estate parcel on the steep, east-facing slopes at the northern edge of the Beaune appellation, planted on shallow, poor clay-limestone soil littered with quarried limestone rubble that historically supplied stone for local buildings. The vines average around 25 years old, and the wine is fermented traditionally in open vats before 10-12 months of ageing in French oak barrels (about 35% new) from the house's own cooperage.
