Profile & Story
Château de Saint Cosme is the historic leading estate of Gigondas, farmed by the Barruol family since 1490 and now run biodynamically by Louis Barruol, who took over in 1992. Beyond the estate-grown Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Barruol sources contracted fruit for négociant bottlings labeled simply "Saint Cosme," including this Côtes du Rhône, an 80/20 blend of Syrah and Grenache drawn from sites in the Gard and Vinsobres. The 2022, from a hot, dry vintage, delivers unusual richness and concentration for the appellation and was named one of Wine Spectator's Top 10 Values of 2023.
Tasting Notes
Deeply colored and aromatic, with blackberry, blackcurrant and violet notes over a lush, structured palate with fine, supple tannins. Restaurant's Notes: Red cherry, crushed strawberry, licorice, dried lavender, savory herbs; fresh and pure-fruited with a spicy lift.
Pairing Recommendation
Excellent alongside carne asada, birria, or other grilled and slow-braised beef preparations.
