Profile & Story
Shafer Vineyards has farmed Napa Valley's Stags Leap District for nearly 50 years, and TD-9 is named for the tractor John Shafer taught himself to drive in 1973 when he founded the winery. The 2022 vintage blends 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot from estate and Stags Leap-area vineyards, aged 18 months in new French oak under winemaker Elias Fernandez. More than 10,000 cases are produced, making it Shafer's most widely available red.
Tasting Notes
Rich and vibrant, TD-9 layers ripe plum and dark berry fruit over sweet spice and cocoa, finishing plush and long. Restaurant's Notes: Blackberry, plum, mocha, violets, sweet spice; plush texture with a long, chocolatey finish.
Pairing Recommendation
A natural with grilled steak, carne asada, or chocolate mole.
