Profile & Story

Solar Fortun is a family winery in the Canada de Guadalupe, Valle de Guadalupe, founded in 2007 by Jose Alberto Lopez, with his son Santiago -- a UC Davis-trained winemaker -- joining the project in 2012. This wine, labeled Mourvedre on the estate's own bottle (Monastrell is the same grape under its Spanish name), is aged 12 months in second-use French oak and earned 90 points from the Penin Guide.

Tasting Notes

A light-to-medium bodied Baja red with savory cherry and leather notes. Restaurant's Notes: Dark plum, blackberry, wild herbs, black pepper, leather; robust and savory with earthy complexity.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs with grilled lamb or Baja-style carne asada.
