Profile & Story

Walter Hansel first planted Chardonnay in the Russian River Valley in 1975; his son Stephen founded the winery in 1996 and built its reputation on Burgundian-styled, whole-cluster-fermented Chardonnay. The Estate bottling blends the original 45-year-old vines with Davis and Dijon clones planted later on the same site, aged with minimal new oak.

Tasting Notes

An old-world-leaning Russian River Chardonnay, whole-cluster fermented for texture and restraint rather than overt oak. Restaurant's Notes: Lemon curd, pear, light toast and almond; fresh, focused, and lively.

Pairing Recommendation

Nice with grilled fish, roast chicken, or almond-based moles.
