Profile & Story

Adega Ponte da Barca Branco Grande Reserva. Country: Portugal. Region: Vinho Verde DOC. Soil: Granite and sandy. Climate: Mild with Atlantic influence. Vintage 2024. Winemaker: José Antas Oliveira. Grape varieties: 50% Loureiro, 50% Alvarinho. Alcohol 12.5% vol., Fixed acidity 6.0 g/dm³, Volatile acidity 0.22 g/dm³, Total sugar 6.0 g/dm³. Winemaking: This wine is made from a selection of grapes from the 2 most renowned varieties of the Vinho Verde Region: Loureiro and Alvarinho. The average age of the vines is 18 years, trained in a traditional single-cord system. The grapes are pressed gently and delicately to extract their maximum qualitative potential. After a 12-hour decantation, alcoholic fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature (16 to 18 °C) to preserve the primary aromas of the two varieties. The Loureiro wine is aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, then blended with Alvarinho, which does not come into contact with the barrels. The name refers to the "naperão," a small embroidered or lace mat: a handmade artifact widely envied for the artistic skill behind it in the 60s and 70s, easily recognized when entering a Portuguese house.

Tasting Notes

Pale yellow color, aroma of citrus and stone fruits, as peach and quince, with white flower notes and a faint exoticism of French oak. In the mouth, it has excellent minerality, combined with the elegance and freshness of Loureiro and the structure and body of Alvarinho, all involved with sobriety.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs with grilled fish dishes, seafood rice, grilled white meats and Asian food. Should be served between 8 and 10°C / 45 and 50°F.
