Bernhard Ott farms loess-terraced vineyards in Wagram, Lower Austria, and is regarded as one of the region's defining Gruner Veltliner producers. Fass 4 is the estate's signature cuvee, named for the fourth barrel that was judged the best wine in a 1989 blind family tasting held by Bernhard's father, Eduard Ott. It is made from 100% estate fruit from the Hengstberg vineyard and fermented mainly in large neutral wood barrels with a smaller portion in stainless steel.
