Weingut Moric was founded in 2001 by Roland Velich to treat Blaufrankisch with a Burgundian sensibility -- elegant, cool and savory, without dominant new oak -- from about 22.5 hectares in Mittelburgenland and on the Leithagebirge, many parcels between 40 and over 100 years old. Kirchberg is the steepest, most calcareous of the single-vineyard sites on the Lutzmannsburg plateau, with vines planted between 1921 and the 1980s; it has been bottled separately since the 2019 vintage in tiny volumes (around 600 bottles).
