Bodegas Argüeso, founded in 1822 by Don León de Argüeso y Argüeso and passed down to his heirs, is based in Sanlúcar de Barrameda's historic Barrio Bajo district, occupying a site that includes portions of a former convent. Since Francisco Yuste acquired the firm in the early 2000s, the bodega has remained committed to traditional Manzanilla production, maintaining its original 19th-century soleras. San León is made from 100% Palomino grapes grown on chalky albariza soils, hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, then biologically aged for a minimum of four years under flor.
Tasting Notes
An intensely maritime nose shows bitter almond and brioche notes, the hallmark of an authentic Barrio Bajo Manzanilla, with a bready character and a saline, refreshing palate that carries the complexity and depth of extended biological aging under flor without sacrificing freshness.
