W. & J. Graham's was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham with the ambition of making exceptional Port wines. The Symington family's association with the house began in 1882, when Andrew James Symington arrived from Scotland to work with the Grahams; his grandsons acquired the company in 1970, and five generations of Symington winemakers have carried the house forward since, sourcing grapes from four Douro estates including Quinta dos Malvedos, where the finest Graham's wines are made. Six Grapes was developed by Graham's in the early 1900s, its name taken from the six-grape stencil once used to mark barrels of the finest reserve wine, denoting complexity and balance; it has remained the house's signature reserve Port for over a century, aged for two years in seasoned vats before bottling.
