Hahn Family Wines was founded in the late 1970s by Swiss-born couple Nicky and Gaby Hahn, who recognized Monterey County's Santa Lucia Highlands as capable of producing world-class fruit; they released their first vintage in 1980 and spent a decade securing the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, achieved in 1991, before focusing the winery on cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Hahn's Chardonnay is estate-rooted in this cool, coastal-influenced region the family helped put on the map, with grapes harvested at peak maturity and fermented at cool temperatures to preserve brightness and balance.
