Mouton Cadet was created in 1930 by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who at just 28 years old revolutionized the Bordeaux wine trade by creating his own branded wine sourced from different Bordeaux terroirs, naming it Mouton Cadet as a nod to his ownership of Château Mouton Rothschild and his status as the family's younger son (cadet in French) — built on knowledge, skill, and innovation, with an imperative to always put quality first. Mouton Cadet is all about family, sharing, and transmission between generations, embodied in the Mathilde Rosé label: Mathilde Sereys de Rothschild, Baron Philippe's great-granddaughter, helped create the artwork that brings the bottle to life in a burst of sunshine, pine trees, and pampas grass, reflecting the French Atlantic Coast lifestyle that inspired it. This fresh and succulent, organic and vegan rosé is made from Merlot, the king of Bordeaux grape varieties, ruffled by sea breezes from the Atlantic Ocean that give the wine its freshness, and matures for three months in vats on lees with a minimal addition of sulfites.
Tasting Notes
Pale pink in color, the wine opens with an initial burst of intense lemon that quickly gives way to fresh red-fruit aromas, especially raspberry and cherry. The palate shows a supple, fruit-forward attack of raspberry, strawberry, and redcurrant flavors, leading into a mid-palate with the succulence of freshly picked fruit, followed by a fresh grapefruit and lychee finish.
