Pine Ridge Vineyards was founded in 1978 by Gary Andrus, a former U.S. Olympic skier drawn to the Stags Leap District's potential to produce wines of Bordeaux-like stature; the estate now farms vineyards across five Napa Valley appellations — Stags Leap District, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros — under Napa Green sustainability certification. Alongside its Bordeaux-variety Napa wines, Pine Ridge produces a Chenin Blanc blended with a smaller portion of Viognier sourced from the Clarksburg and Lodi growing areas, an experimental pairing the winery says became one of its most popular bottlings. The Chenin Blanc is picked at low sugar levels to preserve bright fruit and modest alcohol, the Viognier harvested for its floral, spicy character, and the wine is fermented cold and aged entirely in stainless steel to retain freshness.
