Sterling Vineyards was founded in 1964 in Calistoga, Napa Valley, by British-born entrepreneurs Peter Newton and Michael Stone, one of only 27 bonded wineries in the valley at the time. Their Mykonos-inspired white stucco winery, completed in 1972 and reached by the valley's only aerial gondola, helped put Napa's guest experience on the map, and the estate was a pioneer of European winemaking techniques in the region, bottling the first vintage-dated Napa Valley Merlot in 1969. Sterling's Vintner's Collection is the winery's range of approachable, everyday-priced wines drawn from vineyards across California; this bottling is a Pinot Noir from that collection.
