Domaine de Piaugier Sablet Rouge 2022
2022, Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet, Rhone Valley, France
Profile & Story
The Autran family has run Domaine de Piaugier in the village of Sablet for four generations, currently led by Jean-Marc with his wife Sophie and daughter Maude. They farm approximately 30 hectares organically in the Sablet appellation, emphasizing Grenache as the backbone of their wines alongside Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, Carignan, and white varieties. All wines ferment with native yeasts at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness; destemming has been used since 2006. Sablet Rouge is assembled from several parcels of old-vine Grenache (~80%) and Syrah (~20%) from 35–45-year-old vines, macerated 2–3 weeks in concrete, then aged 18 months in barrel.
Tasting Notes
Lovely aromas of red fruits — blackberry, black cherry, blueberry; fresh acidity, a supple and balanced palate, fine and silky tannins already integrated, with a long finish; medium-bodied with cinnamon and pepper notes.
