Domaine Huet Vouvray Pétillant Brut 2019
2019, Vouvray, Loire Valley, France
Profile & Story
Domaine Huet has produced Vouvray for nearly a century from 30 hectares of Chenin Blanc planted on three of the appellation's most celebrated terroirs — Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and Clos du Bourg — and has farmed biodynamically for over 25 years. The Pétillant Brut is drawn from all three crus and made by méthode traditionnelle, with second fermentation initiated by a liqueur de tirage and aging on lees for a minimum of three years in the domaine's underground tuffeau cellars. The official site describes the Pétillant as the "vin de gastronome par excellence," distinguished from Champagne by a finer, less aggressive bubble that lets Chenin's character take the foreground.
Tasting Notes
Fine, elegant bubble and a fresh attack, with gradual development of aromas from extended lees aging in tuffeau: baked apple, pear, honey, and chalk; supple palate, fresh acidity, and a subtly nutty mineral finish.
Pairing Recommendation
A versatile gastronomic sparkling — to serve at 11 °C across an entire meal.
