Profile & Story
The 11-hectare Navarre estate, founded in 1811 and located entirely within Grande Champagne, is run by fourth-generation distiller Jacky Navarre — widely regarded as one of the last "purist" producers in Cognac. He hand-harvests (a practice abandoned by nearly everyone in the region), distills immediately in a small 30 hl Charentais copper pot still, ages in barrel with no water reduction, and bottles without added sugar, caramel, or filtration. The Rosé Pineau is made from manually harvested Grande Champagne red fruit (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot); the unfermented red grape must is fortified by Navarre's 6-year-old Grande Champagne Cognac and aged for many years in French oak — natural strength, no water reduction. ~17% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Fruity, characterized by delicious red-fruit nuances from the red Charentes grapes; extended barrel aging brings depth, dried red fruits, and the layered complexity Navarre is known for.
Pairing Recommendation
Aperitif, especially in summer; melon, foie gras, blue cheeses; also as a digestif.
