Mas Jullien IGP Pays de l'Hérault Blanc 2021
2021, IGP Pays de l'Hérault, Languedoc, France
Profile & Story
Mas Jullien was created in 1985 by Olivier Jullien in Jonquières, north of Montpellier near the Terrasses du Larzac, on 18 hectares farmed biodynamically with home-made compost, mineral and plant preparations, plowing, grass cover, short pruning, disbudding, and manual harvest. The IGP Pays de l'Hérault Blanc is the estate's flagship white, a blend built on Carignan Blanc and Clairette and rounded out with Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, and Grenache Blanc, aged about 12 months in demi-muids and released roughly two years after harvest. Of the 2021 vintage, Olivier Jullien writes: "a wine under high tension, with much verticality and expression for this very singular vintage which combines great strength of character and vibrant delicacy." Earned 97/100 from RVF and 93/100 from Bettane + Desseauve.
Tasting Notes
Dusty mineral core, very focused and driving; almond paste, citrus blossom, and stone fruits; show-stoppingly elegant, long, supremely clear; dry, fresh, and complex; ages gracefully for many years.
Pairing Recommendation
White meats, rabbit in sauce, and Coulommiers cheese.
