Profile & Story
El Jefe is a project of Vinos Libres (‘just honest wines’). ‘El Jefe [grande]’ — the big boss — is offered as an homage to women, and as an honest, solid red: deep, fresh and flexible. It is 100% Tempranillo (a Tinta de Toro clone) from a single family vineyard in the hills of Zamora just south of Toro, at 2,400 feet on clay, limestone and sand, farmed organically; the estate dates to 1923 and the winemaker is Manu Farina. It is fermented in traditional cement vats with no oak to express soft, fresh tannins and the purity of the Tempranillo fruit.
