Profile & Story
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, founded in 1970 and best known for its role in the 1976 Judgment of Paris, makes KARIA — Greek for "graceful" — as its Chardonnay from cool-climate vineyards in southern Napa Valley. The 2023 vintage draws fruit from the Atlas Peak District (42%), Carneros (35%), Arcadia (14%) and the Oak Knoll District (8%); grapes were picked early in the morning and whole-cluster pressed, with oak and malolactic fermentation used in moderation to accent rather than overwhelm the fruit.
Tasting Notes
Carneros fruit brings citrus and mineral notes, Arcadia contributes perfume and delicate fruit character, and the Oak Knoll component adds bright, juicy apple and pear, while Atlas Peak lends lemon-lime citrus and a richer mouthfeel — together giving a wine of fresh fruit aromas, crisp acidity and subtle oak spice.
