2021 Alta Colina Sun Worshipper
2021, Paso Robles, California, USA

About the Wine
We certainly had a different plan for Mourvèdre upon our founding twenty+ years ago. Originally planted as a necessary blending component of our GSM, we quickly discovered that Alta Colina Vineyard is a truly ideal location to farm this grape: lots of sun with consistent opportunities for a long growing season. While it’s still an important component in our ‘GSM’ blend, we eventually recognized that it deserved it’s own wine! Since 2015 we’ve bottled Sun Worshipper to showcase the incredible quality of this variety from our Estate property. Blend: 68% Mourvèdre, 32% Syrah. Oak: 100% French, 8% once-used Hogshead and the balance in neutral vessels of varying sizes.

Tasting Notes
Reminiscent of the varietal, this Mourvèdre focused blend is complex and layered with aromas of black cherry, fig jam, paso garrigue, graphite and California bay laurel. The palate has a luscious broad entry with earthy flavors of desert floor and wild sagebrush, combined beautifully with notes of fresh currants and Luxardo cherries.

Pairing Notes
Winter vegetables, cassoulet, and braised lamb.
