About the Wine
The 2023 is 100% Valdiguié from French Camp Vineyard located near Shandon in San Luis Obispo County. Valdiguié is an obscure red varietal that is grown primarily in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. As a red, it produces a densely colored wine with a vibrant fruit character, expressive personality, and live wire acidity. Made as a rosé,it creates a pastel wine of subtle berry character and mouthwatering crisp texture. The grapes had 8 hours of skin contact before pressing for flavor and color extraction. It was then barrel fermented, went through partial malolactic fermentation, and barrel aged in neutral oak on the lees for 8 months. This adds another layer of interest.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a pale rosy/peach color. It is dry, crisp and lively showing hints of fresh strawberry and pomegranate. A fun, refreshing, easy sipper for hot days with a cheese and charcuterie board, it also well matched with grilled salmon with pesto, paella, quiche Lorraine, or a perfectly roasted chicken. The pairings are endless!
